How Can I Prolong the Lifespan of My Equipment?

Equipment is a huge investment when it comes to projects. To help you make the most of your investment, we’ve prepared tips on how to prolong the lifespan of your equipment:

KEEPING YOUR EQUIPMENT CLEAN

Keeping your equipment clean goes far beyond aesthetics. Cleaning your equipment regularly helps to prevent erosion, which can wear down parts. It can also prevent clogging from occurring on smaller equipment pieces. Mud, grease and dirt can all contribute to accelerated wear. Regular equipment cleaning also ensures that any stickers indicating maintenance to be performed at specified kms/hrs used is visible.

REGULAR PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE

Always perform regular preventative maintenance as opposed to reactive. Don’t wait until your equipment breaks down to complete repairs. Perform regular maintenance to help prevent your equipment from breakdown during critical projects when you need it most.

CHECK FOR SIGNS OF WEAR REGULARLY

Inspecting your equipment before transporting it to the jobsite it a great way to prevent unnecessary downtime. This is especially essential before going to a remote jobsite where replacement parts might not be close by. It may be a good idea to bring along any parts (for example, filters) that your equipment may be close to needing part-way through a job.

ALWAYS FOLLOW MANUFACTURER’S INSTRUCTIONS

Always follow the OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) instructions that came with your equipment. A paper copy should be given to you at the time of purchase. Many manufacturers also have the information available on their website.

Some things to consider are:

  • Suggested timeframes for maintenance
  • Cleaning agents to use or not use
  • Replace/repair any broken parts with authentic, quality parts.

BENEFITS OF PROLONGING THE LIFE OF YOUR EQUIPMENT

The benefits of taking care of your equipment go far beyond just prolonging its lifespan. Following the tips noted above also helps to:

  • Lessen the chances of downtime and increase operational efficiency
  • Get more out of your purchase and potentially reduce costs
  • Optimize peak performance
  • Ensure your equipment has the best re-sale valuable possible.
